General Information
Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
This is in the central eastern portion of the island, and is a nice point just behind the town of Maketu. It's good fun on its day, though you need to check the weather forecast before making your way here, and it is suitable for everybody from beginners upwards.
-
Beach
-
The beach is just a thin line of sand backing onto grass and some scrubby bushes, so not the most attractive place in New Zealand. It's quiet on weekdays, but can get crowded at weekends if it is going off.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The way the point sticks out into the ocean means that it catches swells and waves from a few different directions, although it still isn't a consistent break. It is best with the wind from the north, north-west or west and the swell from the south-east, east or north-east. The waves will start working at about 1 m to 1.5 m and build up to a maximum of about 2.5 m, and when it goes it does so at all tide positions and on both rising and falling tides. It is a beach break, both right and left, and the waves are pretty ordinary with nothing special when it comes to shape, power, or speed. Length is typically short and won’t get to more than about 50 m unless you catch it on a good day when it might get over 100 metres or even towards 150 m.
-
Facilities
-
You can park right next to the beach and access to the shore is really easy. There aren't any facilities here, but you aren't too far away from any of the larger towns.
-
Safety
-
There are a few rocks around that you will need to keep your distance from, but they are really the only things that could be considered a hazard here.
