General Information

Level:1-10 Season:April 1 — October 1

Niendorf Hafenmole is a great spot for experienced surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers since the location itself, throws up all sorts of different conditions that make for exciting and challenging surfing. The season is from April to October but the beach is too busy during the Summer months for kiting.

Beach

The beach is of a medium size and mainly sandy with some pebbles, around 20-30metres wide at one end extending to almost 100 metres further west towards the mole. Easily found by driving towards the harbour.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The best winds are in spring and fall with frontal winds coming mainly from westerly directions. The winds are lighter in the summer and a north east direction can give you some really nice waves. The best months are June and July for surfboarding. There is very flat water behind the mole in front of the harbour and at the end of the mole on the sandbar you can get some great waves, particularly in strong east to north east winds when you can get speed and use the waves as ramps. The water can get very choppy with west winds and you need to be careful of the mole. To the east, there is a concrete mole and some wooden wave breakers. Out of season surfing is possible, but the water is extremely cold.

Facilities

There is a rescue service, parking with showers and toilets, plus cafes.

Safety

Very crowded in the summer so definitely not a beginners beach. The only place to launch when it is crowded is behind the mole at the side of the harbour and this is within shipping buoys so great care has to be taken with the boats passing by.
