General Information
Level:0-10 Season:April 1 — September 30 -
Suitable for all levels of experience, this is a fun wave for surfers that has a good atmosphere despite having a few well known local characters out here regularly.
-
Beach
-
At the end of 7th Avenue in Normandy Beach, this is just a typical sandy NJ beach. Warm and humid in summer and cooler in winter, make sure you bring the right suit with you.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The wind is best here when coming from the northwest or west, while the swell is best coming from the north, south, southeast, east or northeast. When both work together, you’ll find the waves start building at about 1m and hold up to over 3m. It is a standard beach break, both right and left, and the waves are hollow and ledgey but don’t have a lot of power. Length is normally short, giving 50m at the most, but a good day can see long waves out over 250m. You tend to see those when other spots are being blown out, and unless the conditions are bad elsewhere you won’t see many other surfers out here.
-
Facilities
-
There is a beach patrol during the day in summer, they are there in other seasons but you’ll need to check the times. Normandy is a decent place with a few stores and places to eat, and nothing is more than a couple of blocks away from the beach.
-
Safety
-
There can be some currents out here, but they shouldn’t be anything that can’t be handled with a bit of thought.
