General Information

Level:0-10 Season:April 1 — October 1

This is a nice little spot for all abilities and possibly offers some of the better, more consistent waves in the South Carolina area.

Beach

Come off Highway 17 at the county road and head towards the beach. There are plenty of spots to choose from, so pick a quiet one and park up. The beach is long and sandy, and is less than 5 minutes walk away. It is empty during the week and pretty quiet even at weekends.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The wind tends to be from the northwest here, and the swell comes from the southwest. The swell starts working at about 1m or so, and holds up as much as 2.5m or even higher, which is pretty good for South Carolina. It is a beach break, both right and left, and the wave tends to be fast and ledgey without being especially powerful. A normal length will be less than 50m, but on a good day after a storm you’ll see it up to 150m. It works on both rising and falling tides, and it doesn’t matter whether you go in at low tide, high tide, or somewhere in-between. It gets hot in summer, but this is the best time for the surf.

Facilities

There aren’t many facilities here in Litchfield except for the odd café and restaurant where you can get something decent to eat. Most people will be heading to this spot from Garden City, where there is a good range of accommodation and plenty of things to do away from the water.

Safety

Beware of the rips around this spot and keep your eyes open for sharks.
