General Information
Level:5-10 Season:September 30 — April 1 -
Like the nearby ‘pipes’ spot, this is a shallow break that should only be used by experienced surfers. It’s fast and powerful but a lot of fun, especially in winter when the crowds have gone home and it becomes less touristy, more relaxed and a generally happier place to be.
-
Beach
-
It’s a nice enough spot, a clean sandy beach that gets warm in summer and cold in winter. As the best time to surf it is winter, you’re looking at wearing a full suit including hood, boots and gloves as the water temperature won’t be much above freezing. You’ll need to buy a beach badge to get on here.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The best wind direction here is from the northwest, west or southwest, while the swell only works when rolling in from the northeast. It starts working at less than 1m but will hold up to over 3m, on low and mid tide positions and regardless of whether it is rising or falling. It breaks over a very shallow sandbar, and the waves are hollow, fast and powerful. Length is pretty short, less than on average, but a good day can see well over 100m. It’s busy here in summer, but wait for winter and you’ll have all the space you need as well as the better waves.

Facilities
-
Lifeguards are on duty during the day here. There are public showers available and pavilions offering showers.
-
Safety
-
Currents are strong here, especially in fall or winter during a storm surge. There are also submerged rocks that can easily break a board if you aren’t being careful.
