General Information

Level:0-10 Season:April 30 — October 1

This is a pretty consistent spot suitable for all surfers, experienced or not. It is right by Deal Casino on Ocean Avenue.

Beach

It’s only a fairly small sandy beach here, with a rock jetty to the south. Unfortunately, it isn’t very clean as there are a couple of outflow pipes going into the bay, so don’t come out here after it has rained. Temperatures here are in the mid-20’s in summer, and low single figures in winter.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The best wind direction at this spot is from the west, and the best swell direction is from the southeast. When they come together you get waves that start at about 1m or so and then build up to a pretty big 4m or more, regardless of the tide position or whether it is rising or falling. It is a jetty break, both left and right, and despite their size the waves are only average in terms of power. Length is also pretty average, sticking to a range between 100m – 150m on normal and good days. It’s a quiet spot during the week, but gets crowded at weekend despite the pollution.

Facilities

You can park up in the grass behind the casino, but you can’t use their lot unless you’re playing there. Alternatively, park for free at the pavilion which is open to the public and has showers, lockers and a snack bar – you’ll find it at the bottom of Phillips Avenue. Lifeguards patrol the beach. Deal is a pretty laid back kind of place, well used to tourists hitting it in the summer.

Safety

Don’t cut the locals off, and keep your mouth closed if you fall in.
