General Information

Level:0-10 Season:May 1 — September 30

Right in the middle of the Long Beach Peninsula, this area just catches the good winds and waves and gives some consistent surf that is suitable for everyone, beginners and experienced alike, and has a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Beach

The beach is long and sandy here, and is a really nice place to be in summer.  It never gets truly hot on the beach, maybe reaching mid-twenties in summer if you are lucky, but it’s not a bad place to hang out and relax or wait for the surf.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The wind works best when coming from the southeast or east and blows against the swell which is at its best from the northwest or west.  Its good at mid and high tide, and if you come on a rising tide you’ll get waves that start at about 1m and hold up to just over 2m – 2.5m.  it’s a beach break, only ever breaking right, and the waves are hollow but fun – despite their size they can have a bit of power in them, which might surprise some beginners.  Length is about the average really, somewhere between 100m and 150m most of the time and rarely going shorter or longer than this.

Facilities

Ocean Park is well set out and has come a long way since its days as a railroad stop.  The town is right behind the beach and although it isn’t very big you’ll find a variety of places to stay, eat and drink, as well as a store that sells everything you can think of.

Safety

There aren’t any dangers or hazards worthy of the name here, just use your head and you’ll have a good time.  To put it another way, you’ll have to work hard to get yourself into trouble here.
