General Information
Level:0-10 Season:May 1 — October 1 -
Ocean Shores is a laid back beach town, and despite being a rich little pace it doesn’t have a bad attitude to go with it. Surfing here is suitable for all and its a fun place to be.
-
Beach
-
The beach is sandy and long, backing onto dunes and then grass where the city begins. It’s public access and easy to find so there are no problems there. This part of the coast is cool though, so make sure you bring at least a full wetsuit as even the air temperatures here don’t get over 20c in summer and the water is colder still. It’s a fairly quiet spot almost all of the time, the most you will see is a handful of other surfers out.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The wind is decent from a few directions here, namely north, southwest, south or southeast and its rare it doesn’t blow favourably. The swell, on the other hand, is good when it comes from the south or southwest and only gets going at mid or high tide. It will start working at about 1m, and build up to about 2m or 2.5 on a good day. The break is to the right, by the jetty, and the waves can be hollow and powerful for their size although they don’t roll in particularly fast.
-
Facilities
-
Pretty much everything you need is right on the doorstep. The beach itself doesn’t offer anything except the parking at the end of Taurus Boulevard, but the city is only a short walk away.
-
Safety
-
There are some currents that can be strong here but nothing that you shouldn’t be able to handle.
