General Information

Level:8-10 Season:January 1 — December 31

It takes some effort to get out here, but it’s worth it if you have the skill and the bottle to handle it. The largest surfed wave in the world is here, and we’re talking over 20 metres for it.  It’s a truly epic spot, the place every surfer dreams of doing just once.  If you do ride it, once isn’t enough and you’ll be back.

Beach

There is no beach here at all, you are a way offshore, out past the reef, and you are going to need to get a tow from a jetski to get onto it.  Surprisingly, or not, its never crowded here and you’ll surf it more or less on your own.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The swell here comes in from the north or the northwest and is unaffected by tide position or whether it is rising or falling, you are too far out for that to have an effect.  It starts working at a good height, about 3.5m or so, and builds to 5m easily, quickly getting beyond that and even into double figures, though the truly huge waves are rare.  It’s a reef break, only ever on the right, and as you’d expect from something this size it is very fast and very powerful.  Length is long all the time, even on the average days you’ll get towards 500m and on the epic days you’ll see well over 500m.

Facilities

You are right out in the ocean here, there are no facilities except for big waves.

Safety

Watch out for the currents, they are strong out here and way more than anything you can paddle against.  The rocks that form the reef are also a hazard, especially as they are covered in coral and if you get things wrong you are going to hit them hard.
