General Information
Level:0-10 Season:May 1 — September 30 -
This chilled out spot is good for all abilities of surfer, and while it might not offer the best waves around it can still be pretty good on a decent summer swell.
-
Beach
-
The beach is only sandy but it is small, and getting onto it isn’t the easiest thing – you will need to walk through a lot of thorny bushes that can scratch you to pieces if you rush it. It’s a very popular spot though, crowded almost all the time, and there is a good mixture of people here – kids, families, couples, locals and tourists.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The swell is best when it is coming from the southwest, south or southeast and the wind direction is best when it is from the north, northwest, east or northeast. It is best on a rising tide, and then you will have regular waves that start at less than 1m and hold up to about 2m on a good day. This breaks on the left over a reef, and it is just a fun wave to catch without being anything really special – beginners will like it, those with experience might not find it much of a challenge, especially when you consider the other spots around. Length is good here, up to 150m on a normal day, and if you catch it on the best days you are looking at an excellent 300m.
-
Facilities
-
Pakala village is right by it, but it is only small and doesn’t have a wide variety of facilities. Parking is in the village and you’ll need to walk down to the beach for about 5 minutes.
-
Safety
-
The water gets shallow if you ride the wave all the way in, so be careful you don’t plough into the coral. Watch out for sharks too, there are a lot in this area, but taking simple precautions will keep you safe.
