General Information

Level:3-10 Season:December 1 — March 31

Pelican point is found on the Swan River, and is one of only a few Australian spots that isn't on the coast. This one will suit kite surfers and windsurfers, but they need to be intermediate or expert level in order to get the most out of it.

Beach

The launching area is really just a small piece of grass, and there isn't any room to manoeuvre – you have to get things right first time for a successful launch. On the plus side, you don't get any crowds here as most people head to the coastal beaches instead so the only people you will meet are here to kitesurf or windsurf.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

December to March is the time to come out here, when the thermal winds will be coming out of the south-west and give you speeds of between 15 and 25 knots. If you want to come here at any other time, decent days are possible but you will have to balance the fun against strong and gusty winds and squally rain.  The water is shallow and clean, the current doesn't run too fast, and the surface is always flat. As it's inland, it is also independent of tide.

Facilities

There is a small car park right next to the beach, and there are also showers and toilets here.

Safety

Take care when launching a kite as there are trees close to the beach, and there may also be a bit of boat traffic around.  There is also a wildlife protection zone nearby, and kiting is prohibited there so anybody out should be able to stay upwind of the area.
