General Information
Level:10-10 Season:April 1 — October 1 -
Pennan is a tiny fishing hamlet situated in the Moray Firth. It is mainly used by surfers and windsurfers of all levels. Parking isn’t normally a problem; however it does get busy in the height of the summer as the village is one long seafront. Best season is October to April
-
Beach
-
Small and pebbly, access to it is relatively easy as long as you can park on the seafront. If you turn left out of Fraserburgh and take the coast road through the villages of Sandhaven, Newarbour and Rosehearty, you will see signs for Pennan. Follow a steep windy road down for about 1km and you will find it. Pennan is pretty much empty during the weeks out of season, but you do get a few surfers at weekends.
-
Wind&Waves
-
Pennan, like a lot of spots on the N.E coast of Scotland is pretty constant. You get a good swell from any wind direction whether it is north, northwest, northeast, southeast or east. However the best wind directions tend to be from the south, southeast and southwest. The swell is reasonable and holds up to 3 meters. For Surfers, it is best at low tide where the waves break from right and left.
-
Facilities
-
Although small, Pennan does boast a couple of bed and breakfast venues that are reasonably priced and there is also a pub and a small shop.
-
Safety
-
Like a lot of places on the N.E coast, the sea bed can be very rocky so you will need to be aware of this.
