Located south east of the city of Girona on Spain's north eastern coat lies the beach at Plata D'Aro It is a very popular spot for kite surfers, wind surfers and surfers of all levels and abilities. The beach here does get very busy in June, July and August so there may well be surfing restrictions in place. You might want to check this out before you set off. The best time of the year to surf here are from April to September where you can pick up some pretty good thermal breezes

The beach here is a very long sandy beach that gets pretty busy with tourists during the summer. To get here you need to drive north from San Feliu to Plata D'Aro, here you will see signs for the beach where there is plenty of parking.

The predominant wind directions here are southerly, easterly, northeasterly and east northeasterly. These are also the best directions to surf. The southerly breeze brings about some nice thermals during the summer months and in the winter the wind type is mainly frontal. The water quality is crystal clear and conditions are generally choppy with small to medium waves forming, when the wind is in the right direction and is strong enough. The water temperature falls between 13-18 degrees depending upon the season.

Parking

There is plenty of parking here and accommodation is right near the beach. If you are looking for bars, restaurants and shops then you need to head to the nearest town which is San Feliu. For some really good nightlife then head into Girona.

Safety

There is not much to worry about apart from a small mole situated just off the beach.
