General Information
Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — April 18 -
Right down in the southeast corner of the country, this relatively remote spot is surprisingly well developed. Both kitesurfers and windsurfers use it, and all abilities will find it a good place to spend a day.
-
Beach
-
The beach is sandy, and its size depends on the state of the tide although it never gets too small to use. There aren’t any crowds out here anyway, and as far as the climate goes it is hot and humid – the water will be approaching 30 C all year round, and plenty of sun protection is needed even if wetsuits can be left at home.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The season here is quite short, running only from January to the middle of April. At these times you are guaranteed a good wind that will come in steadily at speed from about 15 knots up to 25 knots. The water is clean and the tide has no effect here. The surface is choppy for the most part, but some of the area will let you ride waves too, and these can be up to about 3m high.
-
Facilities
-
This spot is about 4 hours from Panama City, but luckily it is well appointed. There is accommodation and camping here, and a school offering lessons. The shop offer sale, hire and repair of gear, and you can get food too. Rescue facilities are on hand, and parking is close to the beach. For nightlife, Playa Venao is only 25 minutes away and has a surfer feel about it.
-
Safety
-
Lifeguards patrol here, but they are rarely needed as the area is pretty safe and clear of hazards.
