Playa De La Mata / Murcia / Spain

Situated just north of the busy tourist resort of Torrevieja lies the beach at Playa De La Mata. It is a very popular spot with wind surfers and kite surfers alike of all levels and abilities. The main part of the beach at the center, gets pretty busy with tourists during the summer season, however, there is plenty of space to the north or south of the beach to launch from. Even though there is space, time restrictions may apply so check this out before you set off.

The beach here is typical of the area in that it is large and consists of soft white sand. There are no hazards on the beach to worry about other than crowds, so it is s good place to practice. To get here you take the A332 southbound out of Alicante where you will see signs for the beach. There is a large car park situated about 100 meters from the beach, but it does get very busy. Bear in mind the later you are, the further you will have to walk.

The predominant wind direction at this spot is east southeasterly. However between the months of December through to March, it changes tac and heads south southwesterly. The windspeed hovers around 6 knots and is consistent most of the year. The water quality is crystal clear and is flat to choppy most of the time. However when the wind is in the right direction and is strong enough it is possible to catch small waves of up to 1 meter I height. There is also a shallow access for the first 150 metres or so.

You have got ample parking here together with eating establishments all along this stretch of beach. For supplies, bars, restaurants and accommodation, you might want to head into Torrevieja. It also has some great nightlife.

There isn't too much to worry about here except to avoid the crowds and the swimmers and bathers in the water during the busy summer season.
