Situated on the southernmost tip of the beautiful island of Lesvos lies the beach at Plomari. It is a very popular sot with surfers and kite surfers of all levels and abilities. This spot does get busy with tourists during the summer months of June, July and August and because of this there may well be surfing restrictions in place. Having said that the best times for surfing here are from May through to October when the thermal winds kick in.

Plomari has a very nice beach that is medium to large in size. It is made up mainly of sand and a few small pebbles and is obstacle and hazard free. To get here you will need to drive to the southern tip of the island following the signs for the resort of Plomari and the beach. Here there is plenty of parking.

The wind direction is extremely varied here and most directions tend to work well here. In the summer, particularly July and August the thermal winds kick in at around noon and produce some ideal surfing conditions around 90 percent of the time. During the winter, the winds ate less frequent but much more gustier. The water quality is crystal clear and conditions are generally shallow but producing medium waves of up to 3 meters in height. The water temperature hovers between 14-26 degrees depending upon the season. Up till October you can probably get away without wearing a wetsuit but after this time you will need one.

Facilities

The beach itself has ample parking with shower and toilet facilities. Accommodation can be found a short walk away as can eating establishments. For some good nightlife, head into the town of Mytillini which is around 15 minutes drive.

Safety

This is a pretty safe spot. Just be aware of swimmers and bathers in and around the water during the busy summer season.
