General Information

Level:0-10 Season:June 1 — November 1

This is a great spot all surfers, very consistent with big waves. It’s at its best in the fall when the hurricane swells really push the waves up, and on those days it can compete with the waves anywhere else.

Beach

The beach is actually private property, but you can access the waves from the next-door community. Be warned though, it’s not near any public areas and to get here you’ll need to get the ferry and be prepared for a long walk.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

Frankly, the wind can blow from any direction and the spot will still work, though it is really good from the east. The swell needs to be coming from the north, northwest or northeast for it to fire. When it does, and it does regularly, you will find it starting to work at less than 1m but holding up to a very good 4m or more. It works on all tide positions too, and on both rising and falling tides. It breaks only to the left, over a sandbar, and the waves are reasonably powerful and fun to ride. A normal day will give a good length approaching 150m, and a good day in the fall on the back of a storm swell will go well over 400m. Despite the fantastic waves the effort of getting here is too much for many and you’ll often find yourself out here on your own.

Facilities

There’s nothing here at all. You’ll need to take the ferry over as cars aren’t permitted on the island, and the nearest public facilities are in Saltaire which is a long walk or decent cycle ride away.

Safety

There are no dangers here, just remember the beach itself is private.
