General Information
Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
Port Saplaya is situated on the north east coast of Spain and is an idyllic seaside port resort with glorious beaches surrounded by a backdrop of colourful houses. The long promenade offers wonderful panoramic views of the stunning Alboraya stretch of coastline. This spot is very popular with sailors, and surfers of all kinds. There is no particular season although September through to April will probably be the best time to avoid crowds.
-
Beach
-
The beach is a lovely long stretch of white sand flanked by dunes and the water is crystal clear. There is ample space on the beach most of the time, and indeed on a weekday it is often empty. However, the summer months do get very crowded especially at weekends. To get here just head towards Valencia and the beach is about 4.5 kms outside of the City. Parking is immedately by the beach.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The winds come predominantly from the east with east northeast being a good wind and swell direction. The best winds are October to December and February to April. The water is blue and crystal clear and flat behind the wave breakers. Most of the time it is flat to choppy with small waves up to 1 meter. There are right and left beach breaks with a length of 50-150 meters. The spot is tidal with the best surfing to be had at low and mid tide. The water is pleasantly warm during the summer so only shorts needed but come the colder months you will need to suit up.
-
Facilities
-
There are plenty of facilities at Port Saplaya including a sailing school, tapas bars and even a Macdonalds. If you're after night life then it is probably best to head into nearby Valencia where you can easily party the night away.
-
Safety
-
Take care to avoid the numerous wave breakers and also be aware of the harbor mole. Also watch out for boat traffic and swimmers, especially during the summer months.
