General Information
Level:7-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
The name might have given away the fact that this isn't exactly the most picturesque place you can surf, but it's a really good break with very consistent conditions that should give something to entertain even the pickiest surfer.
-
Beach
-
The beach is long and sandy, and you enter it by walking through Mandalay Beach Park for about 20 to 30 minutes. Because of the difficulty surfing it and the unwelcoming environment, you'll usually find yourself surfing this place alone. The water around here is cool, and a wetsuit will be needed whenever you come.
-
Wind&Waves
-
With the wind blowing from the east and the swell coming in from the north-west, this will start working at 2 m or so and hold up to just over 3 m. It will work at all tide positions, but the tide needs to be falling. It is a beach break, both right and left, and is powerful enough that it can take you by surprise if you aren't ready for it. Length is good at 100 to 150 m on most days, extending to over 200 m on good days.
-
Facilities
-
There is absolutely nothing here in terms of facilities. The nearest parking is at the other end of Mandalay Beach Park, but at least there is plenty of it.
-
Safety
-
Pollution is the biggest hazard here, you really don't want to swallow this water. There are also some strong currents, and sharks are often sighted in the area but don't cause problems, unlike some of the locals who will happily drop in on you.
