General Information
Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
When people – surfers in particular – think of this area off of the Cabrillo highway, they naturally begin to think about Maverick, one of the most famous surfing destinations in the whole world, with average 20 ft waves. But surfers who admit that they’re not ready for such extremes travel right down the road to Princeton Jetty. Here surfers, wind surfers, and kite surfers alike enjoy calmer waters.
-
Beach
-
Though this beach gets crowded when conditions are good, there is usually a chance to find an empty spot when travelling south along the beach. Water sports are enjoyed here all year-round.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The majority of people hang out along the north end of the jetty because that is where the biggest head-high waves can be found. Waves are at their best with west and south swells. Wind and kite surfers benefit from eastern and north eastern winds.
-
Facilities
-
Princeton Jetty stays pretty crowded all year round with people either coming out for water sports or just to sight-see. The beach is easily accessible from the Cabrillo highway, and there is even a free parking lot right outside. Watch out though – speeding cars somewhat make for a hard time getting into the lot.
-
Safety
-
As with all parts with northern and central parts of California, sharks – particularly the Great White Shark – are native to these waters. Extreme caution should be used.
