Psalidi is located on the north-east coast of Kos island. It lies 15km across from Turkey, and between the two is a narrow strait which creates a wind tunnel. Warm summer temperatures go up to 32°C and water temperatures up to 27°C, while winters are mild with some rainfall. It is more popular with windsurfers, although kitesurfers are present as well.

Beach

Mainly pebbly with small stones; there is a small sandy area. It has a shallow slope and a windshadow for the first 70m which make it ideal for beginners. Facilities such as sunbeds, umbrellas and food centers are readily available.

Wind&Waves

The water is flat with some chop and waves are less than 1m, although beyond the sheltered area waves can reach 2 m in height. As the water is deep, there are no tides. Winds, known as the Meltemi, blow NW and W and are stronger from noon till 6pm with speeds averaging between 4-6 bft. There are days in July-August when it gets to 7-8 bft. In summer, the winds blow just about every day and are stronger than in the surrounding areas. It is best for intermediate to advanced wind and kite surfers but beginners get their lessons in the sheltered area. Shorts or shorty are sufficient in summer, while a full wetsuit or a shorty are required in the other seasons.

Facilities

Psalidi is 25km from the airport, but is only 6km from Kos city. It is serviced by bus, or you can rent a bicycle, scooter or car. There are a number of well-established and fully equipped sports centers attached to the upscale 5-star resort hotels which rent out boards and catamarans. Accommodation also includes self-catering apartments. While rentals are available, bringing your own wetsuit and harness is advisable.

Safety

It is a safe sailing area with a dedicated baywatch, rescue boats and radio communication. Be aware of the shipping lanes which start around 1.5 km from the beach.
