General Information

Level:10-10 Season:October 1 — April 1

Punta Prima is an ocean spot situated on the southern most tip of the island of Menorca. It is a good spot for wind surfers and kite surfers, however it is only recommended for those of expert abilities, because of the small size of the beach and the fact that there are razor sharp rocks on both sides. It does get packed with tourists during the summer and because of this there are heavy surfing restrictions, so it may be prudent to check before you set off. The best season here is from October through to April.

Beach

Sand Gradual descent

The beach here is fairly wide but is only 180 meters in length. It has large rocks at both ends of the beach. To find it you drive southwards from Mahon until you see signs for Punta Prima, once here, follow the signs for the beach. Parking here is limited, so you might want to come during the week when there are less people.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot Regular wind

The wind tends to come at you from a north northeasterly direction most of the time and the wind speed hovers around 9-10 knots. The water quality is crystal clear and is generally flat to choppy in nature. The water temperature tends to be somewhere in between 16-26 degrees dependent upon the time of year, so even in winter you can get away with a normal wetsuit, during the rest of the year, a shorty or shorts will suffice.

Facilities

Parking

Punta Prima is a busy bay and offers accommodation, parking and various eating places. The town itself has a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants and the nightlife here is not too bad either.

Safety

Underwater obstacles

The rocks can be quite dangerous so try to avoid these at all costs. The small beach makes take off and landing for kite surfers tricky. Watch out for swimmers and bathers in the water during the high season.
