General Information
Level:0-10 Season:June 1 — September 30 -
This is a place for everyone, kiters, surfers and windsurfers, and no experience is necessary. As with much of Hawaii, once out on the water you’ll be treated to some spectacular views of the coastline and some excellent deep blue water.
-
Beach
-
The beach is sandy and although it is long it isn’t very wide, so spectators tend to cluster near the shoreline and kiters should take note of this. Wear shorts all year round here, the lowest the air and water temperature will get to is about 25c.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The wind comes mainly from the east and south here, but the best directions for it are north, southwest, west and northwest. It blows all year round and the best conditions are found between June and September, when 25 knots and more are regular occurrences. At other times, winds are lighter but still usable, reaching a maximum of about 15 – 20 knots. The water varies according to tide and wind, ranging from a choppy surface to small waves and, on the best days, good sized waves reaching up to 3m high.
-
Facilities
-
This is a really well set up place and has almost everything you want. There are public toilets here, showers on the beach, and accommodation close by if anyone needs it. Parking is plentiful, just off Kekaa Drive, and it is only a couple of minutes walk to the beach from there.
-
Safety
-
Surfers and windsurfers just need to watch out for swimmers, while the only other thing that might bother kiters are the trees near the beach.
