General Information
Level:3-10 Season:December 1 — March 31 -
This Melbourne suburb is a popular day trip and holiday destination, and has a number of popular beaches. This one, also known as Beaumaris Beach, works for windsurfers and kite surfers who are rated intermediate or better.
-
Beach
-
This is a small sandy beach, and it often gets busy at the peak of the holiday season in January and February. Summer air temperatures often reach over 30° C, with the water not far behind it, but the rest of the year will require a wetsuit as the water cools rapidly going into winter.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The season here runs from December to March, and the best time to be here is in the afternoons when the thermal winds pick up. The most common direction is from the south-west, though the wind is also good when coming from the south-east, and you can expect speeds of between 10 and 20 knots. The water is shallow and clear, and the best conditions are found at the high tide mark as this makes for a bigger area is the reef to the west gets covered. The surface will range between flat, choppy and small waves.
-
Facilities
-
You can’t park here, the nearest you'll get is on the other side of the road in one of the residential streets. There aren't any facilities on the beach either, but Beaumaris is well set up to deal with tourists and has a good choice of restaurants, shops, places to stay and entertainment once you are done surfing .
-
Safety
-
There maybe a few boats passing through this area, and the reef is only shallow even at high tide, so mind you don't get cut on it.
