General Information
Level:6-10 Season:June 1 — September 30 -
For expert windsurfers and kiters, this place offers the chance to get a really good wind behind you and play to your heart’s content.
-
Beach
-
There is plenty of room for launching and landing on the smooth sandy beach, and there is a good sized grassy rigging area too. Air temperature might reach about 20c in summer, so only a thin wetsuit is needed, before falling to 4c or so in winter when you’ll want a full thick suit.
-
Wind&Waves
-
It’s a venturi wind at this location, usually going between 15-25 knots but sometimes getting well over 40 knots as the winds howl down the river gorge. The best, and pretty much only, wind direction is from the west which gives a tricky cross-shore, especially when it’s blowing hard. The best time to come is between June and September, and it is good in both mornings and afternoons. The water is murky due to the sand and soil carried in the river, but it isn’t actually polluted. You don’t get a huge number of people out here at anytime.

Facilities
-
You’ll find everything you need here. You can buy, rent and get your gear repaired here and if you intend to stay over there is a hotel and a campsite. You’ll have to pay a small fee to park, and the parking isn’t close the beach either – be ready for at least a 15 minute walk.
-
Safety
-
The current is strong here, you’ll need to be able to handle that, and you‘ll also need to keep your eyes open for other craft out on the water.
