General Information

Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31

Sa Rapita is located on the South western end of the island and is a very popular spot for surfers, wind surfers and kite surfers of all levels and abilities. Like most beaches on this island it does get busy during the summer season, so there may well be surfing restrictions during these times. It may pay you to check up before you go. The best time to surf here is from autumn through to spring, because there are more thermal winds that time of year, and also there are far less crowds to worry about.

Beach

Sand Gradual descent

Sa Rapita has a large white sandy beach that is over 1 km in length. Expect lots of bathers and swimmers during the summer season, but out of season it is possible to pick your spot. To find it you need to travel south east on the A717 out of Palma heading towards Llucmajor and Campos Here you will see the signs to Sa Rapita. The beach is situated to the east of the harbor where you can park.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot Regular wind

The main wind direction is easterly or variations thereof and the winds can be both thermal and frontal, more so the winter for the thermal winds. The average wind speed is around 6 knots but it can get pretty gusty especially during the winter. The water is flat to choppy with a shallow access for the first 150 meters or so. When the wind is strong enough and in the right direction it is possible to pick up small waves of up to 1 meter in height. The quality of the water is extremely good and the water temperature falls somewhere between 18-26 degrees depending upon the time of year.

Facilities

Parking

There is parking here, however out of season all the beach bars close, so there is no food and no toilets. For shops, bars, restaurants etc, then you need to head into Sa Rapita town itself. For night life then head back into Palma.

Safety

There are really no safety issues to worry about here, except for crowds of bathers in the water during the summer.
