General Information
Level:3-10 Season:November 1 — July 31 -
On a fairly exposed part of the northeast coast, this place isn’t really suited to beginners but kiters and windsurfers who have a bit of experience will find plenty to occupy them.
-
Beach
-
The beach is typically Caribbean, sandy and long but not too wide. This place is actually two bays next to each other, so in the unlikely event that one is getting a bit busy for your tastes just head next door to find some free space. The climate is fantastic all year round, is always warm and the water will be in the high 20s, with a wetsuit only required on the occasional winter day when the cooler wind might be blowing.
-
Wind&Waves
-
It's a good long season here running from November right through to July. The winds are trade winds, and blow from the north-east or the east most of the time with speed varying from about 15 knots up to around 25 knots depending on the time of day. Conditions vary according to the wind strength, with the water surface being flat or choppy it lighter winds, and building up to the possibility of 3 m high waves when the winds are strongest. Tide has no effect here, and the water is clean and perfectly clear.
-
Facilities
-
The beach itself has no facilities except for the ability to park close to it, but the town of Sainte Marie is the fifth biggest in the island and can provide you with everything you are likely to need during your visit.
-
Safety
-
There is a rocky headland at the south end of the bay, but as long as you keep your distance from that and can cope with strong winds there is nothing to worry about.
