General Information

Level:0-3 Season:January 1 — December 31

This place takes its name from the nearby road and seasonal village, and it is fairly well known in the area. It's a pretty sloppy wave that is really only good for beginners, but it has a decent atmosphere and you'll often find families out here playing.

Beach

The beach consists of plenty of deep, white sand and it's always clean.  It isn't the most serene place has a railway line right behind it, but it's still a popular place to come at weekends especially because it seems to be a little bit warmer than some of the other beaches in Santa Barbara – winter water temperatures can average 16 to 17° C and summer can be 20 - 21° C.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

This place is okay when the swell is coming from the north-west, south-west or south and the water is at the mid or high tide level.  The waves will start working at less than 1 m and hold up to about 2 m or so. It is a beach break, both right and left, and is pretty slow and powerless though beginners will still find it fun. Length of the wave is short at around 50 m, but on a good day can be between 100 and 10 m.

Facilities

There are a couple of surf schools close by who use the beach quite regularly for lessons, and there are a couple of places where you can get food and drink at the south end of the beach. For everything else Summerland is just a short drive away.

Safety

There aren't really any hazards here, just watch out if its busy as beginners aren't always able to get out of the way.
