General Information

Level:6-10 Season:April 1 — September 1

Situated slightly north west of the town of Ferrol on Spain's north western Atlantic coast lies the beach at Santa Comba. It is a great spot for surfers and kite surfers of intermediate and expert abilities. It is not advisable for beginners to practice here because of the rock hazards situated just off the shore to the left of the beach. This spot does get pretty crowded with tourists during the summer months so there may well be surfing restrictions in place. You might want to check this before you set off. The best time to surf here are from April to September.

Sand Gradual descent

This spot has a long sandy stretch of sandy beach that is medium to large in size that naturally curves its way around the bay. There are some large rocks sited just off the shoreline to the left of the beach. To get here you need to head north west out of Ferrol towards Covas where you will see signs for the beach. There is plenty of parking here.

Wind&Waves

Wave spot Regular wind

There are two predominant wind directions here and they are, north easterly and south westerly. Both directions work well here. However, the south westerly brings with it some excellent thermals during the summer months and the rest of the year the wind type is frontal. The water quality is crystal clear with small to medium waves pretty much all of the time. The water temperature is 13-18 degrees depending upon the season. So you might want to suit up accordingly.

There is plenty of parking here but that is pretty much it. If you need shops, bars, restaurants, accommodation and some decent nightlife, then you may want to take the short drive back to Ferrol.

Safety

Keep a close look out for the large group of rocks situated off the left of the beach. Also be on the look out for swimmers and bathers in the water during the summer period.
