General Information

Level:0-10 Season:December 1 — April 30

This wide open area has a fantastic view out across the Gulf of Mexico.  Outright beginners and those with years of experience will love this place, whether they are here with a catamaran or are windsurfing or kitesurfing.

Beach

The beach is long and wide, covered with the soft clean sand you expect in the Caribbean.  Some parts of it seem to get busier than others and can be very crowded, especially at weekends, but you should always be able to find some space for yourself.  Bring shorts and forget the wetsuit, the water is warm all year round.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

December to April offer the best conditions here, with the wind reaching up to 20 knots fairly consistently – it builds up throughout the day and reaches its peak in the late afternoon.  The water is shallow for a fair distance out from the shore, and the surface is usually choppy but can have waves reaching about 1m high if the wind is strong enough.

Facilities

This beach fronts an area just to the east of the capital, Havana, and you can either stay there in all its 1960’s timewarp glory or grab a room at the more modern resort out here.  Food and drink are also available, and you can get here by public transport or drive yourself and park on the dunes behind the beach.

Safety

The only things to watch out for here are the other traffic that is out on the water, and the swimmers and bystanders that head for the beach when the weather is good.
