Beach

Sand Gradual descent

The beach consists of dark volcanic sand and is about 500 km in length with rocks at both end. There are also several trees scattered around. During the summer months, there is a swimmers zone and so space is limited. There are also time restrictions in place so you may need to check this out before you come. You can get here by driving toward Ribeira Cha and east of that you will see signs for Agua D'Alto where you can park next to the beach.

Wind&Waves

Wave spot Regular wind

Being so exposed in the Atlantic Ocean, the winds come from a mixture of directions and are best during Spring and Winter. The best directions for kiting at this spot are ENE, E, ESE, W and WNW when you can get some nice waves of about 1 meter. The water quality is clean and tends to be quite choppy, and you do need to be aware of rocks in the water. The water is pretty cold almost all year and so you need to wear a full wetsuit most of the year. Although it is not that crowded here the spot is not suitable for beginners because of the rocks and trees scattered around the beach.

Facilities

Parking WC Shower

You can get accommodation here and there are also shower and toilet facilities. Parking is close by and there are a few places to buy food. For supplies and limited night life you need to head back into Ribeira Cha.

Safety

Keep within the designated zones during the summer months and watch out for swimmers in the water. Also be aware of the rocks scattered along the beach and in the water
