General Information

Situated on the southern tip of the small Greek island of Karpathos lies the spot at secret beach. It is a popular spot for windsurfers and kite surfers of intermediate and expert abilities. It is not advisable for beginners to practice here because of the rocky moles either end of the beach. Also the current can be fairly strong around these shores. Surfing is permitted all year round and hardly gets used by beach goers (hence the title secret beach). The best time of the year to surf are between April and September

Beach

Pebble/Shingle Gradual descent

The beach here is pretty small and is made up of sand and small pebbles, the beach itself has a rocky mole at either end. To get here you will need to drive in a westerly direction away from the airport for around 4 kms Follow the road right round the peninsula until you come to the first small bay. Here you can park.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot Regular wind

The wind here mainly hits you mainly from the north west and this is also the best direction for surfing here. The water quality is crystal clear and conditions, like most places on the island are flat to choppy. The water temperature remains somewhere between 14-26 degrees depending upon the time of year, therefore you may want to suit up accordingly.

Facilities

Parking

There isn't a lot on this side of the island except parking. The nearest town is Afiartis which is a 25 minute drive away. This is why it is not that busy with tourists during the summer season. Afiartis has a selection of shops, bars, restaurants and accommodation if you want to let your hair down, then head into Karpathos town.

Safety

Rips/undertows

Beware of the rocky moles either side of the beach and keep an eye out for the strong undercurrent.
