General Information

Level:6-10 Season:October 1 — April 1

Segur de Calafell is situated on Spain's Costa Dorada coastline and is for the most part a quiet and tranquil seaside spot although come summer weekends and the whole of August and the spot becomes a mecca for sun worshippers and tourists. The spot is enjoyed by experienced kitesurfers since the beach is deserted a lot of the time. It is not suitable for beginners, however, as there are many potential hazards here.

Beach

Sand Gradual descent

The beach is sandy and of a medium size with a small harbor dividing it. There is a promenade and a street just behind it which makes it hazardous for inexperienced surfers. You can get here by driving west of Vilanova to Segur de Calafell where there is parking right next to the beach.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot Regular wind

The main wind directions here are easterly and southwesterly which are also the best directions for surfing in these parts. In the summer the southwesterly breeze brings with it some excellent thermal winds. During the winter this wind becomes frontal. The water quality is crystal clear and is flat to choppy with some small waves a lot of the time. The water is flat behind the harbor mole. The water temperature falls somewhere between 10-18 degrees depending upon the time of year, so you might want to suit up or suit down accordingly.

Facilities

Parking

There is very little here aside of parking and the odd chirringuito where you can grab yourself a drink and some tapas. For supplies you need to head into the town of Segur de Calafell or further on into Vilanova. If you want to make a weekend of it, then Barcelona is not too far away and it is great for nightlife too.

Safety

Underwater obstacles Shipping traffic

This is quite a tricky spot and great care needs to be taken with the nearby road and promenade. Also look out for the harbor mole and wave breakers.
