General Information

Level:5-10 Season:January 1 — December 31

This is a good big wave spot that is suitable for experienced surfers only, and when it fires everybody wants to be here.

Beach

The beach is sandy and clean, and is about a mile long.  There are a lot of houses behind it, however, and this combined with the fact that the surfing is so good means that it is always crowded in the summer months.  Temperatures are about what you'd expect for this area, averaging 14° C in winter and about 17° C in summer, so check out the forecast before deciding what to wear.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

This place works best when the swell is coming from the north-west, west or south, with a rising tide from either the low or mid tide mark.  It will start at 1 m to 1.5 m, and rapidly reach a maximum of about 5 m on the best days.  It breaks right and left over a sandbar, and the waves are powerful and hollow and a lot of fun if you have the experience to ride them. The length lets the place down slightly as 50 m is fairly typical, and even on a good day it won't be much beyond 100 m.

Facilities

Lifeguards are on duty from June to the end of August.  There are quite a few places where you can buy food and drink, but for anything more than that you will need to head back out into Oxnard. Parking is difficult as there is really only one road in, so get here early if you don't want a long walk.

Safety

Strong currents have caught a few people out in the past, and there are a number of submerged rocks that should be noted and avoided. Other than that, watch out for the odd pushy local who will think nothing of dropping in on tourists.
