General Information
Level:0-10 Season:May 1 — September 30 -
A fairly isolated spot, this is still a good place for kitesurfers and suits all levels of ability from beginners upwards.
-
Beach
-
There is a fairly long strip of beach to go off here, but it is only thin and surrounded by scrub and trees. To get from the city of South Lake Tahoe, just take Route 89 west to Heritage Way and turn right. Take the first left onto Tallac Road and park up in the grass at the end. You’ll find the beach about a ten minute walk away.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The wind here is quite strong for a beginners spot, blowing at 16-25 knots, but it is across-shore and easy to manage. Conditions are at the best in the mornings and evenings from May to September, but the wind is pretty scarce in the afternoons. It is a pretty quiet spot with not many people making the effort to travel out here even at weekends, which is a bit of shame as it has good facilities, the kiting conditions are pretty consistent and the water quality is good. On the other hand, it does mean plenty of room for you to get out and enjoy it.
-
Facilities
-
This place has a respectable set of facilities. There is a hotel on site and a campsite for those who’d rather sleep outdoors. There is a shop selling and repairing kit, rental facilities, showers and of course lifeguards for anyone in trouble.
-
Safety
-
It is cold here, even in summer, so you’ll need to make sure you bring the right kit. Other than that, just watch out for others on the water.
