General Information

Level:0-10 Season:April 1 — November 1

Spiaggia dei Saraceni is located along the Adriatic coastline of Italy not far from Pescara and is just south of the harbor at Ortona in the Abruzzo region. It is a popular spot with kitesurfers and windsurfers of all abilities and levels. The season is primarily from April to November but off season is possible here.

Beach

Sand Gradual descent

The beach is 300 meters long and very wide and sandy. There are no obstacles or hazards. It can get packed here with sunworshippers during the summer months of June, July and August and time restrictions may well be in place. The best times to surf here are from September to April when you will avoid the crowds. You can get here by driving south from Pescara towards Ortona and the beach is just south of the harbor.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot Regular wind

The winds come mainly from the south west, which can bring relatively high temperatures in the winter months and also north east winds which can bring rain and even snow, from Siberia. The summer months mostly see fairly stable south west winds which work well at this spot. The water is crystal clear and is mainly flat to choppy. There is also a large shallow area which is great for beginners and those wishing to try out new stunts or hone their skills. The summers are warm and you can get by with just a pair of shorts or a shorty, although come the winter months and you will need to suit up accordingly.

Facilities

Parking

There are toilet facilities on the beach and a few beachside bars where you can grab a bite to eat or a drink. The parking is ample too. Ortona has a small selection of shops, restaurants, bars and accommodation as has Pescara in the other direction. Nightlife is limited mainly to the hotels and bars along the sea front and is very quiet in the winter months.

Safety

This is a pretty safe spot but watch out for crowds on the beach and swimmers in the water during the busy summer months.
