Level:5-10 Season:April 1 — November 1 -
Spiaggia d'Oro is located in the north of Italy not very far from the French border and is in the Liguria region. It is popular with surfers of all types who have some experience since there are a few hazards here. The season is from April to November, although offseason is possible here.
-
Beach
-
The beach is a good size and made up of golden sand. However there are rocky wave breakers and a 700 m long mole which makes it only suitable for experienced kiters. The beach can get crowded in the summer months of June, July and August and consequently time restrictions may be in place. You can get here by driving to Porto Maurizio where the beach is located to the south of the harbor.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The winds come from a variety of directions although south west is the best for the spot. The thermals kick in during spring and summer and produce some great conditions. Strong south west winds can produce some nice waves of up to 2.5 meters high. The water is crystal clear and tends to be flat to choppy, depending on the wind direction. The summers are warm here and you can get by with just a pair of shorts, but come the winter months and you will need to suit up accordingly.
-
Facilities
-
There is plenty of parking here and toilet facilities on the beach too. In addition there are a few beachside bars where you can buy a drink or bite to eat. San Remo or Imperia have a good selection of shops, restaurants, cafes and accommodation. The nightlife is not bad near the harbor at Porto Maurizio and there is plenty in Imperia if you feel like partying the night away.
-
Safety
-
When the winds are strong, this spot is only suited to experienced riders. Watch out for crowds on the beach and swimmers in the water during the busier summer months and also be aware of the wave breaks and large harbor mole.
