General Information

Level:0-10 Season:April 1 — November 1

To the north of Marsala, the sea forms a lagoon which is known as Stagnone. This is closed to the east by the mainland and to the west by Isola Lunga, or Long Island. It is the shape of the lagoon and its warm shallow waters, plus the fact that there is nearly always a gentle breeze, that makes this spot a very popular place for practicing windsurfing and kitesurfing. It is also popular with sailors and is suitable for catamarans. The season runs from April to November, although off season is possible here too.

Beach

No beach

There isn't any beach here as such with launching done from the water. You can get here by leaving Marsala and following the SS115 (Salt road) for a few km in the direction of Trapani. Follow the coast on the left and you will arrive at the lagoon in the matter of minutes. Alternatively there is a bus service from Piazza del Popolo at the center of Marsala which connects the city to the lagoon.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot Regular wind

The winds are thermal with the main directions being north, west, west north west and north west. The best direction here is north. The best months for decent winds are May to September. The wind is very strong, especially with westerly depressions and being a large shallow area, practically any direction works. The water is clean and there is a large flat shallow area which makes it ideal for beginners to learn in a safe environment. The constant wind also gives experienced surfers a chance to show off their skills.
