General Information
Level:2-10 Season:March 1 — July 31 -
Like the rest of Mustang Island, this is a very picturesque spot and looks out across the Gulf of Mexico. Both windsurfers and kite surfers go out here, and both will need to have a bit of experience to be able to play safely.
-
Beach
-
As with all the beaches on this island, it is sandy and clean, very long but not very wide. The size means there is plenty of space though, and it never gets crowded even in the height of the holiday season.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The best time to be here is between March and July, when the frontal winds come in from the south-east at a decent speed of around 15 to 20 knots. From August to September the winds are much lighter and less consistent, but will start to pick up again from January. Come here in early mornings or late afternoons for the chance to catch the best wind. The water here is never flat, and depending on the wind strength will have waves of about a metre high or bigger waves up to about 3 m.
-
Facilities
-
This is probably the only part of the island actually has decent facilities by the beach itself. There are public toilets and showers here, and there is a campsite if you feel like staying for a while. Parking is available right on the beach itself, or in the parking lot a couple of minutes walk away.
-
Safety
-
Watch out for the cars that park on the beach, and there is a line of wooden stakes down the centre that should also be avoided. The water holds nothing you could consider a hazard though.
