General Information

Level:5-10 Season:April 1 — November 1

Tollo is located in the beautiful Abruzzo region of Italy and lies on the Adriatic coastline with commanding views both of the Adriatic Sea and the mountains of Central Asia. It is popular with kitesurfers who have at least intermediate experience since there are rocky wave breakers out in the water. The season runs from April to November although off season is possible.

Beach

Sand Steep descent

There is a good sized sandy beach with not too many people about, although the summer months can get packed, especially at weekends. If you drive south along the coast until you reach Ortona Foro you will be able to park in the streets and there are pedestrian tunnels leading directly to the beach.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot Regular wind

The winds come mainly from the south west, which can bring relatively high temperatures in the winter months and also north east winds which can bring rain and even snow, from Siberia. The summer months mostly see fairly stable south west winds which work well at this spot. The water is crystal clear and is mainly flat to choppy. There is also a large shallow area, a bit like a lagoon, thanks to the wave breakers which are about 130 meters further out. The summers are warm and you can get by with just a pair of shorts or a shorty, although come the winter months and you will need to suit up accordingly.

Facilities

Parking

The beach has a few bars where you can buy a drink or a bite to eat and there is parking in the nearby streets. Tollo has a small selection of shops, restaurants and bars plus accommodation and you will find even more in nearby Pescara.

Safety

This is a relatively safe spot as long as you steer well clear of the wave breakers.
