General Information
Level:10-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
Suhrendorf is located on the western coast of Rugen which is a large island off the German coast situated in the Baltic Sea. It boasts of having the most shallow water in Europe and you can ride out as far as you like with the water no higher than your waist. It's a great spot for surfers of all abilities and it is possible to surf all year round if you can handle the cold.
-
Beach
-
There's no beach to speak of, just a dyke and shallow water to launch into. The nearby camp site has a fairly large grassed area that you can use to rig and launch and you can find other possibilities if you look around. To get here follow directions for the campsite and the watersports area is located at the northern end of the site.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The winds are mainly frontal westerlies with a speed of around 8-9 knots. The best wind by far is the south westerly and spring to fall is the best time to be here. Winter can be pretty good too but it is very cold. The water is flat making for some great speed trips between Rugen and Hiddensee. The huge shallow area makes it perfect for learning too and it's never very busy. The only downside is that there can be a lot of seaweed during the summer months causing problems for directional riders.
-
Facilities
-
The campsite has all the amenities you need such as showers, toilets, food store and parking. If you're after nightlife then head back to Stralsund or Bergen.
-
Safety
-
There are restricted zones in the area and you are not allowed to ride in the swimmers' area. Take care also to avoid the seaweed.
