General Information
Level:6-10 Season:May 1 — October 1 -
Unusually for the area, this is a good summer and fall spot that is suitable for experienced surfers. It is just south of Ocean Beach Park, right out on the West Coast of the County.
-
Beach
-
The beach is long and sandy, but not particularly wide. It is all public access but doesn't really seem to attract many visitors and you'll almost always be the only person out surfing here. Water temperatures are pretty average, around 14° C in winter and 17° C in summer.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The conditions are best with the wind coming from the south-east, east or north-east and the swell coming from the north, north-west, west, south-west or south. It works at all tide positions and on both rising and falling tides, with the swell starting at less than 1 m and holding up to about 2.5 m. It is a beach break, both right and left, and despite the relatively small size the waves are fast, powerful, and hollow. Length can be excellent and maybe up to 300 m, though usually you can expect 100 to 150 m.
-
Facilities
-
If you drive out here you just need to park at the train station, cross the tracks and you are right on the beach, or alternatively you can come on the train itself. There are no facilities on this part of the beach, but you do get restrooms on the picnic area just to the north in Ocean Beach Park.
-
Safety
-
The currents can be strong on this part of the coast, and there are often sharks are sighted so pay attention to any warnings.
