General Information
Level:5-10 Season:January 1 — April 30 -
This is another wave spot on the same stretch of coast as Shacks, and just a bit further over from Isabela. Once again, it is mainly populated by surfers, with the occasional kiter and windsurfer, and as the conditions are quite challenging it is only suitable for those with plenty of experience.
-
Beach
-
The beach is sandy with some exposed rock, and its only small so it can get quite crowded from January through to April. The climate is warm and humid all year round, and you can expect frequent showers although there is no need to bring a wetsuit – it never gets cool enough to need one.
-
Wind&Waves
-
January to April is the best time to come out here and the catch the waves. The wind will blow from the northeast most of the time, at 15- 20 knots, and push against the swells to create some good waves that be up to 4m or so high. The waves can be heavy, though they don’t tend to be very fast, and the best spot for these is over on the east side. The water is clean and the state of the tide makes no difference here.
-
Facilities
-
You can park close to the beach, but there’s no other infrastructure here unless you count the concrete hut that can be used for shade. Isabela is the nearest town, but most people here will have made it a day trip from San Juan, which is a couple of hours drive away.
-
Safety
-
Sea urchins cover the shoreline, so wear boots or walk along the sandbars rather than the rocks. There are exposed rocks to avoid, and often bystanders on the beach where there are also trees.
