General Information
Level:8-9 Season:April 1 — October 31 -
If you are looking to catch the best of the South Atlantic waves, but want to avoid the crowds of Myrtle Beach, travel 13 miles south to Surfside Beach. Nicknamed the family beach, the small and secluded area provides the waves and amenities for all your favorite water sports, such as: catamarans, kite surfing, sailing, surfing, and more.
-
Beach
-
As the emphasis on agriculture declined in the 1950s, sand was imported for the 2.2 square mile beach now known as Surfside Beach. Part of South Carolina’s Grand Strand, the beach is located on a barrier between the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. All beaches along the Grand Strand begin the season in Easter and run on into October.
-
Wind&Waves
-
Due to the area’s humid sub-tropical climate, sporting season starts early in the spring, with air and water temperatures peaking at 70 ° F, and rising to 80 ° in summer months. Wind speed is perfect for wind surfers who want some good planing action in April, with an average speed of 50 knots. For the summer months, wind speed drops to the mid-30s, ideal for kite surfing, catamarans and sailing.

Facilities
-
You don’t have to go to Myrtle Beach to find premier water sport schools and rental equipment. There are many accredited and renowned companies to provide you the equipment and service you need. The small seaside town provides good shopping, fine dining, hotel accommodations, as well as other attractions. Surfside Beach is close to the Myrtle Beach International Airport, and is accessible by bike, bus, and car.
-
Safety
-
Surfside Beach is equipped with a full crew of accredited Lifeguards throughout the season, though it is mandatory for all water sports to be conducted with the use of a life jacket.
