General Information
Level:0-10 Season:September 1 — May 1 -
Nestled between Rome and Naples in the south of the Lazio region lies the seaside resort of Terracina. Way back it was an important port on the Roman Appian Way and also the site of a major temple to Jupiter. Today, most of the temple has gone but its impressive vaulted base can be seen for miles around and no trip is complete without a trip to the hilltop site. The beach at Terracina attracts kitesurfers and windsurfers of all abilities although surfing is strictly forbidden during the busy summer months.

Beach
-
The beach is long and sandy and hazard and obstacle free. Apart from the busy summer months when surfing is banned, there is plenty of space for safe launching and landing of a kite. The beach is located directly south of the town and clearly signposted.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The main wind direction is south westerly and this direction also works really well here. The best winds are to be had in fall or spring although they can sometimes be a little gusty. The spot is tide independent. The water quality is crystal clear and conditions are generally choppy with small waves. The summers are warm as is the water and you can get by with just a pair of shorts or a shorty. Come the winter months and you will need to suit up accordingly.

Facilities
-
Terracina is geared up towards tourism and there are plenty of cheap takeaways and bars along the sea front. There are also a couple of supermarkets along the sea canal and another on the way up to the temple. A short stroll into the old part of town reveals charming winding medieval streets where you will find specialist shops and bars full of atmosphere. If you're here for a few days or more, it is well worth a trip into Rome or Naples where you will also find some fantastic nightlife.
-
Safety
-
This is a safe spot but you are not allowed to surf during the summer months as the area is too packed.
