General Information
Level:0-10 Season:October 1 — April 30 -
One of several spots in this area, this one has a good reputation for consistent conditions for a large part of the year. All ability levels of kitesurfer and windsurfer are welcome here, and it is a place with no shortage of people willing to help out and give advice.
-
Beach
-
The beach is sandy, packed and hard towards the bottom end and deeper and softer at the top. The size depends on the tide position, and to launch at higher tides you’ll need to go out from the nearby Tooan Creek.
-
Wind&Waves
-
October through to April is the time to be out here, with average windspeeds of about 10 – 15 knots coming from the north or northwest. Outside these months the wind comes from the west and is a bit less reliable and often gusty, and not usually surfed. The behaviour of the water is dependant on the tide movement, and may be flat at low or mid tide with some chop or small waves at high tide. It is a shallow area and the water is crystal clear.
-
Facilities
-
There are showers and toilets on the beach that are open to visitors, and parking is possible only a couple of minutes walk from the shore – use the lot next to the picnic area. Lifeguards patrol the beach, and the town is right next to the beach if you need to find a place to stay or some entertainment.
-
Safety
-
Mind the nearby pier, and be aware that there is a rock wall surrounding the beach – helmets are a good idea.
