General Information

Level:1-10 Season:January 1 — December 31

Timbakion is located south on the island of Crete just a stone's throw away from the capital, Heraklion. It is fairly quiet here for most of the year, although the summer months can get busy. It's a great spot for windsurfers of all abilities and the season extends right throughout the year.

Beach

Sand Gradual descent

The beach is medium sized, long and sandy and scattered with rocks and pebbles. It can get busy during the summer months with holiday makers so probably the best time to surf is from September to May. You can get here on the 97 south of Heraklion and then take the 77 to Timbakion. The beach is south of the airport.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot Regular wind

The winds are predominantly easterlies and westerlies with the best winds during the winter months. Westerly winds tend to produce small waves. The water, as with all of Crete is blue and crystal clear and tends to be mainly flat to choppy. You need to be careful in the water as there are a few rocks. The summers are hot here and it is easy to get sunburnt, so protect yourself with a lycra. The water is lovely and warm at around 24 degrees with air temperatures in the thirties. You will need to suit up accordingly during Fall and Winter.

Facilities

Parking

There is nothing much at this beach apart from parking. Head into the town of Timbakion for supplies and accomodation. Night life is limited here but you will find plenty going on in nearby Heraklion if you fancy partying the night away.

Safety

There are not too many safety issues here. Just be mindful of the rocks scattered around and look out for holidaymakers both on the beach and in the sea during the summer months.
