General Information
Level:0-5 Season:April 1 — October 31 -
This is a nice beginners surfing beach, in a location that’s a bit quieter than most other Long Island spots. It’s at its most consistent in the fall, but spring and summer are also decent times to be out here.
-
Beach
-
It’s a fairly large area here, sandy and clean. The beach is private and access is limited to residents only on weekends, but you can pay the fee and get on during the week. As a result, there are never many other people out here and you have all the room you need to practice in.
-
Wind&Waves
-
Wind blows in here from the north or the northwest, and the swell comes rolling in from the south or southeast, so both work together to give some fairly consistent, if small, waves. The swell starts working at less than 1m and might get to about 2m on a good day, although generally speaking it will be averaging about 1.5m. It does work at all tide positions though, and isn’t fussy about whether the tide is rising or falling. It’s a beach break, both left and right, and beginners will find the waves to be fun but relatively powerful, although experienced surfers are unlikely to thin there is much to them. Length is usually short at less than 50m, but a good day can increase that up to over 100m.
-
Facilities
-
Lifeguards patrol the beach and there is plenty of parking in the official lot on the other side of the parkway.
-
Safety
-
There are no hazards here, just be aware it’s a private beach and if you break the rules, such as no alcohol on the beach, you will be thrown out.
