General Information
Level:0-10 Season:October 1 — April 30 -
HerveyBayis a popular area for all sorts of watersports, and has a number of different locations that give varying conditions. This one is for windsurfers and kitesurfers from beginners to experienced, and is often used when the nearby Dome has no beach available.
-
Beach
-
The beach is sandy and medium sized, and as a creek mouth really only joins the sea at high tide – any other time you’ll need to launch and then walk across the sand to the water. You don’t get crowds here though so you should have plenty of room to launch and land. Air temperatures are low 20’s in winter and as high as mid 30’s in summer, with the water trailing by a few degrees.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The best conditions around here occur from October to April, with good winds coming in from the north, northwest or northeast at an average of 15 – 20 knots with some days over 25 knots. The water will depend on the tide, with the surface being flat at low tide and choppy or small waves at high tides. It is also shallow all around here, and it is clean and crystal clear.
-
Facilities
-
This part of the beach is devoid of facilities, and even the parking isn’t on an official lot – you’ll need to park up on the grass between the trees if there is room, or on the nearby streets if not.
-
Safety
-
Don’t go out too far on a northeast wind as you’ll be in danger of getting too close to the reef and rocks. There are also trees right on the edge of the beach, made more of a hazard as most winds are onshore.
