General Information
Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
This is an ocean spot popular with all levels of kitesurfers, windsurfers and surfers. It is part of the Delaware Seaside State Park and the area is a popular one with holidaymakers, especially families.
-
Beach
-
This place has a nice, wide sandy beach with plenty of space, although it can be busy with sunbathers in summer. There is a $5 fee for out of state vehicles here.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The wind can come from any direction and at any strength, but only has a low average speed as it is dependent on any depressions passing through the area. The waves vary, building from 1m and holding up to 3m, but are fairly consistent if the wind is right. If the wind isn’t blowing right for you here, you should just hop across the road to the New Road spot where everyone else will be. The water is warm enough to only require shorts in summer, but winter will need a full wetsuit of drysuit.
-
Facilities
-
This is a state park, so don’t expect lots of facilities beyond toilets and the odd food stall. The town of Dewey Beach is only a short drive away, and this is a popular family resort with plenty of hotels, rental cottages and condos. Nightlife is pretty active here too, it is known among regulars as a party town, and there are plenty of things to entertain if you aren’t out on the water.
-
Safety
-
There are no hazards to watch out for here, but kitesurfers should be aware of sunbathers when launching during the busy season.
